Updates and Enhancements

Added some new features today, we hope you find them useful:

1. Added functionality to automatically detect the page title when you
shorten a link.  You still have the option of adding your own label,
but if you shorten using the bookmarklet, you won't have a bunch of
"Untitled" links going forward.

2. For those of you who use Tweetie 2.0 on the iPhone (and soon on the
Mac) you now have an easy way to use Linkee as your shortener of
choice, even with support for statistics.  Just copy the api link in
its entirety and it'll work just fine.

3. iPhone support! We've created an iPhone-friendly version of the entire site, so that those of you who are using either the iPhone or iPod Touch are able to easily browse your links, statistics, charting, and shortening.

How to use Linkee in Tweetie 2.0

With the release of Tweetie 2 for iPhone yesterday, it is now possible to use Linkee as your default shortener, and have all your statistics tracked as well.

Here's the url to enter into Tweetie's custom shortener field:

http://api.linkee.com/1.0/shorten?api_key=[your-api-key]&format=text&input=%@

Your Linkee API key is at the bottom of My Account page (if you have an account).

For those of you without accounts - sign up! It's free!  Alternatively, just remove the "api_key=" parameter.

Also - It seems like Tweetie doesn't automatically shorten the links for you - you must tap the number counter and choose shrink links. It also appears to only shrink links that are long enough.

Facebook Integration & Shorter Link Now Live!

We've been a little quiet here on the Linkee front for the past few weeks, but we've been working very hard to bring some nice new features to the site.  Today, we launched two of them:

  • Facebook Integration
  • Shorter Link (lnke.me)
Facebook integration is fairly straightforward - the same way that you've been integrating with Twitter is now available for Facebook.  Shorten and Post in 2 clicks using the bookmarklet.

To add your Facebook account to Linkee, go to the My Account page and click the "Add Facebook Account" button.  Accept both of the Facebook prompts, and you're good to go. Authentication is using Facebook Connect, so again, no account information is actually stored on Linkee's servers, so your account is totally safe.

The other new feature today is a shorter URL for your links.  We've provided the option of using lnke.me as the domain instead of linkee.com.  You shouldn't notice any functionality difference between the two, but one thing to keep in mind is you can NOT use the two interchangeably. If you'd like your old links to be using the new domain, you'll need to re-shorten them.

To set lnke.me as your default domain, go to your My Account page and select lnke.me as the short link domain from the drop down, and hit save changes.
